Photoreceptor cells

Photoreceptor cells, or photoreceptors, are a type of specialized nerve cells in the retina of the human eye. Specialize in the fototransducción, turning the light that captures the retina in a string of biological processes. The photoreceptors absorb photons of light from the field of vision and, in a complex route biochemist, sent this luminous stimulation by means of a change in its potential action.

There are two types of photoreceptor cells in the retina: the rods and cones. The first suit (or are more sensitive) light less intense and not detect colors; seconds react more intense light and can detect colors and elaborately fine. For some Anatomists retinal ganglion cells would be a third type of photoreceptor, cells have something light sensitivity; their axons are projected to form optical disc and the optic nerve.
